Whilst the majority of the Oscars ceremony ran along without a hitch, there was one huge mix-up that has the Internet Tweeting Steve Harvey memes like crazy. Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced that La La Land had won the coveted Best Picture prize, when – in reality – Moonlight had won.
She Said: “I opened the envelope and it said: Emma Stone, La La Land,” Beatty explained to the Oscars audience. “That’s why I took such a long pause and looked at Faye, and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”
Emma Stone Wins Best Actress Award At Oscars 2017
Stone, known for her red hair and wide eyes, has showcased her comedic prowess in a slew of films over the past decade from her breakout in 2007’s raunchy Superbad to leading roles in high school comedy Easy A, The Help and The Amazing Spider-Man. Stone also won attention while dating her Spider-Man co-star Andrew Garfield for about four years. The media-shy couple split in 2015.
She was previously Oscar-nominated in the supporting actress category in 2015 for dark comedy Birdman.
La La Land saw Stone pair up for an on-screen romance with Ryan Gosling for the third time, following Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad. Director Damien Chazelle said he hoped the pairing would bring to mind Golden Age movie couples such as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers or Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.

However, Stone has clarified that she was holding her acceptance card the entire time, saying in a post-awards press conference: “I f***ing loved Moonlight. God, I love Moonlight so much! I’m so excited for Moonlight! And, of course, it was an amazing thing to hear La La Land. I think we all would have loved to win Best Picture.
“But we are so excited for Moonlight. I think it is one of the best films of all time. So I was pretty beside myself. I was also holding my Best Actress in a leading role card that entire time.
