Morgan Stanley Says Amazon Echo Sold 11 Million Devices by 01st December 2016

All knows that Amazon sold more and above 9 times the number of Amazon Echo units along the 2016 holiday season than the year before. But new data now shows that the real sales could be well over 11 million units of them. In a note, published on Wednesday by the analysts of investment bank giant Morgan Stanley says that, based on a current survey, Amazon sold 11 million units between mid-2015 and December 1, 2016.

The Echo range of devices acts as a medium for Alexa, the voice-activated software persona which e-commerce giant has developed to allow customers to buy detergent, control lights, or pick a song from Spotify by just using their voice. Alexa competes and stands on same heights with similar voice-controlled platforms from Microsoft, Google, and Apple which many experts say to be the future of personal computing.

The majority of units were bought by the U.S.A; the analysts of Morgan Stanley also estimates that 400,000 were sold in Germany while 300,000 in the U.K. in the same period.

Another point marked by Morgan Stanley notifies the figure of 11 million to be “likely too low” as it doesn’t account bulk shopping done as a  frenzy that commences with Black Friday and heightens up in middle of  the month of December.

Amazon keeps safe its Amazon Echo sales close to heart. Amazon Echo sales information play an important role to show how strong the smart speaker market is.

But it gives us a snapshot of penetration of these smart devices in the United States. The reason that’s significant can be that this smart device allows voice shopping on Amazon.com leading to easier and better shopping experience. The amazon Echo owners can order Prime-eligible products using voice commands on their Echo, Tap and Dot devices from Amazon. This breaks open new revenue channel for the e-commerce giant.

No one has much idea about voice shopping done through Echo on Amazon.com as it’s only been a few months since the feature being launched.

In the context of other voice-based applications from Google, Apple and Microsoft the voice shopping with Alexa on amazon could predictably be a major revenue maker for Amazon’s retail division.
