Amid the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2017 in Frankfurt, Square Enix uncovered a lot of new subtle details for the Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood and has fortunately gathered together the information on their Twitter page.
Alongside the opening movie teasing the new Samurai class expansion (which will utilize STR gear), there’s another Eastern region roused area called Shirogane, another player hub in the port town of Kugane, another Beast Tribe (the Kojin) and Primal (Susano), new dungeons including Yanxia and The Azim Steppe, and Akihiko Yoshida’s exquisite boxart for the Japanese release of the title.
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood Trailer
The trailer shows a duel between the Warrior of Light and the Lady in Red, zooming in and out of stunning visuals that reveal the epic cliffside on which they fight. Later we get a look at the world map where we are drawn east towards the continent of Othard, specifically the new city of Kugane.
In Kugane, we see members of the occupying Garlean Empire chase down a samurai, a new job class revealed today. The camera pans out to reveal a hawk flying up to Yugiri, who is in the company of a samurai named Gosetsu. Yugiri will be returning as a major character in Stormblood. As for Gosetsu, we’ll be introduced to him in Patch 3.5: The Far Edge of Fate – Part II in March.
Since the world map has been extended to demonstrate each of the Three Great Continents, with Aldenard toward the west, Ilsabard toward the north and Othard toward the east, the extended guide will be incorporated into the Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood Collector’s Edition.
Additionally, Nobuo Uematsu has returned to form the primary topic, “Upsets.” According to Uematsu, the melody is more effective than “Answers” and “Dragonsong” and is intended to speak to both the shortcoming and quality of humankind. Susan Calloway will come back to sing the extension’s topic.
Samurai is a melee DPS that uses katana to fight. There will be no associated class to level beforehand, same as in the Heavensward jobs, and like Red Mage, you begin at Level 50.
Samurai will “single-handedly deal massive damage” using “Iai” techniques and other methods of traditional Far Eastern swordsmanship. Abilities include mastery of the three forces of “Sen”: “Setsu” (Snow), “Getsu” (Moon), and “Ka” (Flower). Samurai store energy in their katana and unleash it in special attacks.
Samurai job quests will begin in Eorzean areas, just like the Red Mage. This means players can unlock this job before they reach the new expansion content.
The Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood will release for the PlayStation 4 and PC on June 20th.
