The audience round of American Idol kicks off in New York City, where a 15-year-old Mara Justine owned the stage by singing Rihanna’s “Love On The Brain” for which she received a standing ovation from all three judges, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. All judges voted to send her to Hollywood.
Katy who got impressed by Mara’s performance said that the bar is increased high to start off the audience night.
The next contestant Andrew Weaver delivered an amazing performance of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” while a young contestant Griffin Tucker, 15, played piano and sang The Beatles’ “Lady Madonna.” Christina Jones, the powerful vocalist amazed all three judges with a rendition of “The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me.” And all three artists made it to the Hollywood.
The 26-year-old next artist, William Casanova sang “A Song For You” for all three new judges of the singing reality show. He touched the hearts of all three judges and won the Golden Ticket.
Michelle Sussett was the first contestant to try out in Los Angeles, she succeeds in drawing judges attention by her performance in which she sang a Spanish language song and danced as well. She even got the judges out of their seats and dancing and received three “yes.”
Misha Gontar, a Ukraine native served a unique and interesting performance next, which was full of strange sounds than lyrics. Gontar entertained our judges but failed to make it to top-10.
Brandon Diaz performed in honor of his father next, a singer immigrated to America from Cuba. He performed “Unaware” for which Katy dubs him the best male artist they’ve auditioned so far and the judges agreed he’s quite ready for Idol and he’ll be moving on.
Interesting Katy who was single at the time of filming flirted with some of the contestants. Especially with one particular artist named Trevor Holmes, who has a ‘huge’ crush on the songstress. And Katy also immediately attracted to the artist, too. But unfortunately, there is a twist in the story as Trevor has a girlfriend — Oops!! Although he managed to make it to the Hollywood.
