According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, an unfortunate incident took place at the cruise on Saturday when an 8-year-old girl fell down from the interior atrium to a lower deck of the cruise ship.
Miami Fire Rescue captain Ignatius Carroll said that girl was transported to the Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in the “extremely critical condition,” Miami Herald reported.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue received a call after 8 AM, the department responded to help, Carroll said. The rescue workers of Miami-Dade were performing CPR on the young girl when Miami Fire Rescue arrived at the scene.
The child fell down about 8:15 AM when the Carnival Cruise Lines ship Carnival Glory finished its voyage and the cruise ship docked at Port Miami, according to the police. How far she has fallen from the cruise ship was not clear immediately.
Police said, the young girl was transported to the Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center by the emergency personnel, the young girl took her last breath there and died.
According to the police, the investigators team up with the police department homicide department and searching for more details about the incident that took the life of an 8-year-old young girl. The investigators are working with Carnival Cruise Lines to obtain details of the unfortunate incident took place on the cruise ship.
A spokesperson for Miami Fire-Rescue department, Capt. Ignatius Carroll at a news conference, “We understand that the child may have fallen 20 or so feet from a landing,” CNN affiliate WFOR reported.
However, the identity of the dead girl has not been revealed yet.
According to the latest release from the police, the vice president of corporate communications with Carnival, Jennifer De La Cruz said, “Our most heartfelt care and concern is with the family at this very difficult time.”
Police said that cruise ship was turned over to Carnival in order to pause the normal operations.
