A rapper and businessman, JAY-Z spoke out about his marriage and how its survived the scandal.
In an interview with T: The New York Times Style Magazine, JAY-Z revealed some rare aspects of his personal life, he also admitted the past infidelity which revealed what was going in his head and shared how he and his wife Beyoncé got back together after facing ups and downs in their relationship.
The famous rapper told the outlet, “You know, most people walk away, and like divorce rate is like 50 percent or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves. The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself.”
He said, “So, you know, most people don’t want to do that. You don’t want to look inside yourself. And so you walk away.”
JAZ-Y and Beyoncé tied the knot in 2008 and the rapper never walked away from his marriage, but it hasn’t been always easy for him.
The couple has seen everything throughout their 15 years of relationship, elevator incident after the Met Gala with sister-in-law Solange, infidelity rumors in since 2013. The 35-year-old offered a rare glimpse at marital strife in her 2016 visual album titled — Lemonade. The 47-year-old JAY-Z was finally pointed as being unfaithful via the song of his new album, 4:44, which was released in June.
The rapper told T that therapy was helpful for him in order to look inward.
“I grew so much from the experience,” JAZ-Y said. “But I think the most important thing I got is that everything is connected. Every emotion is connected and it comes from somewhere. And just being aware of it. Being aware of it in everyday life puts you at such a … you’re at such an advantage.”
JAY-Z said that he built up walls because of experience from his childhood, the raper has been nominated for total eight awards at the 2018 Grammys.
“You go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode what happen? You shut down all emotions. So even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can’t connect [because of the way you feel about yourself],” Jay-Z said. “In my case, like it’s, it’s deep. And then all the things happen from there: infidelity …”
