The new Duchess of Sussex has made her official Trooping the Colour debut on Saturday. However, the former Suits actress wasn’t standing in the front or the center on the palace balcony.
Prince Meghan Markle spotted stood behind her sister-in-law, Princess Kate Middleton, and her brother-in-law, Prince William. Well for those who aren’t aware and wondering why the new royal bride was standing behind the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — it was because of the royal “pecking order.”
Joe Little, who is a managing editor of Majesty magazine, told People, “She was not as prominent perhaps as some people might have expected, but there’s a pecking order.” Joe said, “There was no slight intended, but William being the older, more senior brother would go out [first] with his wife.”
Back in 2011, when Kate’s debuted her Trooping the Color appearance, she stood in the front to the far left of the palace balcony.
“[Meghan] was still in a good position,” Joe told the publication. “She was central rather than the alternative of being in the front row and along the balcony to the left or right.”
According to the palace source, the balcony position of Meghan “would have come from her. There’s no one laying this out, telling her where to stand. And there were a lot of kids who everyone would want at the front,” People reported.
During the royal annual celebration in honor of Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, Meghan arrived to Buckingham Palace alongside her hubby, Prince Harry. The newlywed couple recently returned from their honeymoon. Meghan and Prince Harry tied the knot on May 19 at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
The newest royal was dressed up in a pale pink off-the-shoulder dress by Carolina Herrera, she completed the look with a matching hat by Philip Treacy. The Duchess of Sussex also opted pink for her first royal outing on May 22, she also wore a similar hat at that time.
