People who diagnosed with the Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are at major risk for maladaptive coping strategies like rumination and depression. This is updated by a new research that adaptive coping skills which are acceptance and problem solving can improve the lifestyle of any person. The OCD patients are adequate to find out those adaptive coping skills at the time of disorders. This is updated by the new German study which gets published in the journal Cognitive Therapy and Research.
OCD is a critical psychological condition in which the patients face the persistent of those unwanted thoughts and high levels of anxiety which disturbed every moment of them. This disorder results in the reduction in one’s quality of life. To come on this conclusion and to get known about the facts, the researchers had compared the behavior pattern of 60 patients with OCD to a group of 110 people who are diagnosed with depression and also controlled a group of 1050 adults at the same time.
All the people who are a part of the study had completed many surveys online in which they tell about their medical and psychological histories in respect with the levels of compulsive and abilities by which they can cope up in any situation. All the participants also answered the questions which are about different adaptive and maladaptive coping styles by which one deals with some difficult situations.
In the survey, the participants also filled the Maladaptive and Adaptive Coping Styles Questionnaire (MAX) which gets in front by the researchers. This questionnaire found effective to measure coping styles by using three different elements that are maladaptive coping, adaptive coping and avoidance. All the participants also tell about their coping strategies which they use to overcome the symptoms of OCD. Some coping styles like acceptance and suppression also come up in front as some coping styles.
