Only a mother knows what goes on her heart when she loses her child. Yazmin Juárez who decided to fly to Guatemala with her daughter in a search of a centre of safety in America where she can give a good life to her child. She was captured by the US officials and her 21-month-old baby lost her life. The young mother was called in the front of the House lawmakers where she was asked to share her story of how she travelled to America and how she lost her only child. The story was so heartbreaking that New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fled to tears. When she traveled to America, Yazmin and her child were captured by officials and she was sent to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Dilley, Texas.

Her daughter fell sick as she shared, “We spent a very cold night … sleeping on concrete.” She also conveyed that the food they received was very unhygienic as she mentioned the term “not appropriate” for a child as it “went through many hands”. The food was dirty enough to expose her child Mariee to “many more germs” due to which she fell sick. The mother asked for the medical help for her daughter and the officials provided the needed medications but the medications did not work and her daughter started to feel sicker. They were released from the ICE facility after six long weeks and then Mariee lost her breath.

Yazmin is Spanish and she couldn’t speak English so she was allotted a translator. The translator translated her words, “To move forward without my little girl, it’s like they tore out a piece of my heart like they tore out my soul. I am suffering every day. It is difficult to get up and move forward without her. I wanted to have a good life for her and a better future and work hard so that she could keep growing the way that she was. But now I won’t be able to do that, because she’s gone.”  Maryland Democrat Jamie Raskin, the chair of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties was devastated as he was captured rubbing his face and Texas Republican Chip Roy also was seen disturbed by the heartbreaking story.
