Texas mother fighting with her son’s school over his long hair

She was aware of school's hair policy at the time of registration.

A mother from Texas is battling with his own son’s school over her son’s long hair. Jessica Oates who lives in Mont Belvieu, Texas will fight for his son and she will not go down without a battle with the school, she told KTRK.

Her 4-year-old son was sent home back from the school over the long untied hair. The kid never had a hair cut and has a long hair.

Oates said, “I don’t believe that short hair should be required to get an education.”

As per the reports, Jessica Oates’s son reads in Barbers Hill school which follows the strict dress code. The dress code rules of the school also include conditions about students hair length.

During the time of enrollment of her son, Oates was made completely aware of the Barbers Hill School’s rules and regulations which include male students’ hair be above the ear, eyes and neck. She was aware of school’s hair policy at the time of registration.

She said that she was asked for a letter mentioning specific religious or cultural exception. She was asked to don’t come to the school until she cut her son’s hair before she wrote one such explanation letter.

The angry mother who is literally fired up said, “I feel like my son is owed the same education that all other children in this school district have.”

Oates told KTRK, as per her perspective the length of her son’s hair is no barrier in her son’s ability to learn. She thinks that length of hair isn’t really matter for education.

Due to the hair policy of the school, Jessica Oates tried a bun on his son’s hair but it was not a good idea. ABC13 received a statement from the district, “Our local elected Board has established policy based on community expectations, and Barbers Hill administration will continue to implement the said policy.”
